Joe Tolson is a member of the North Carolina Carolina House of Representatives. During his five terms, Representative Tolson has served as Appropriations chair and co-chair of the Joint Information Technology Committee. He led the legislative effort to fund the school connectivity initiative to put all of education on a single statewide network, streamline state e-procurement and other technology innovations, including student information systems. He continues to support the implementation of digital learning in public schools and chairs the Global Classroom Alliance that provides a platform for high schools and universities to partner and learn between institutions.
Representative Tolson taught science in public school before completing his degree in administration. He served as an occupation extension associate and vice president of extension programs for Edgecombe Community College and became manager of the Rocky Mount Center of Edgecombe Community College until he retired.
