Micro-Credentials Partnership of States Releases Quality Assurance Standards for Micro-Credentials Resource to Support Districts, States

The Micro-Credentials Partnership of States, led by digiLEARN with guidance from RTI International, today released the Quality Assurance Standards for Micro-Credentials — a resource for educators, school districts, and state leaders to use as they incorporate micro-credentials into systems of professional learning and licensure.

The Quality Assurance Standards for Micro-Credentials are currently undergoing a pilot process for validation. We encourage districts and states to use the tools within the report and then work with us to assist with our validation process. You can download the report here and learn more about how to join our work.

The resource report outlines:

  • Quality assurance standards for micro-credentials, which give those who are developing, issuing, and recognizing micro-credentials—including states, school districts, schools, and public and private vendors that develop micro-credentials—universal criteria against which they can measure the quality of individual micro-credentials.

  • A series of recommendations for how states and districts can transform the broader system of educator preparation, learning, and compensation to increase the viability of competency-based models.

digiLEARN convened the Micro-Credentials Partnership of States in 2022. The Partnership includes a group of national education leaders and state-focused education partners in Wyoming, South Carolina, Arkansas, and North Carolina.

This collaborative, multi-state partnership is identifying opportunities and addressing challenges related to educator micro-credentialing across states. The Partnership’s goal is to develop policy recommendations that support states’ ability to consistently implement micro-credentials as part of high-quality state systems of education and, ultimately, improve teaching and learning in schools.
